Match report A poor afternoon for St Albans 1st XI against an Old Owens side moved to 3rd in Division 2A after an 8-wicket win for the hosts.

Choosing to bat, Kindlen found Brad Lane to be too quick and McKinlay was run out to Javed Mir, who had an inspired match. Sandipan Chanda & Henry Tyler scored quickly as Owens changed bowlers with great frequency. Chanda became the first of 5 LBW decisions after a rapid 20 from 14 balls. Tyler & Howeson batted steadily taking the score to 102 before a loosener from R Lane was hit straight to mid-off. Goodfellow added 11 before Howeson reached his second fifty in a row. At 159 for 5 with 14 overs left Ahmed accounted for both Howeson and Capaldi before the innings folded and Owens were donated 8 extra overs and a target of 176.

Tyler's first ball removed R Lane to a smart catch by Howeson. Dawson-Goodey decided to take on the attack. His 42-ball fifty started to take the game away from St Albans and after Jacob Winfield took a maiden wicket, at the age of 15, Javed Mir scored a quicker 50 (32 balls) finished with 56* in an innings containing only boundaries. The hosts won with 28 overs to spare and only 2 wickets down. St Albans left with 8 points when many more looked likely.

The First XI host Ickleford on Saturday at Clarence Park from 1pm.
