St Albans Cricket Club Lost By 2 runs

Match report Potentially a significant day for St Albans after a loss to 8th placed Ickleford left them 82 points from safety with half a season remaining. A haul of 4 points after a 2 run defeat was all to show for after a closely fought match at Clarence Park.

After choosing to bowl, the hosts waited until the 17th over for a breakthrough when Chanda smartly stumped opposition keeper, Blanchard, for 37. Dan Rosson, called up late to the side after the withdrawal of Mark Telkman, began badly but produced a tight bowling spell, bowling his 15 overs in one spell for one the reward of Hilliard's wicket. Max Capaldi picked up 4 wickets in his best spell for the club, whilst Fookes & later Schumann added quick runs. The latter finished 43 not out from 40 balls.

Ickleford used 3 slow bowlers of differing variety for most of the innings. McKinlay started well until bowled by Timm with Tyler following soon after, spooning a catch to a juggling midwicket. Chanda scored 34 before an LBW decision, appealed for only by the keeper, which hit only his glove. The rate slowed but Adam Hounslow held firm in brief partnerships until 7th out for a well paced 56. Winfield walked after being stumped with 21 required from 20 balls. Phil Caley scored 16 from 2 overs leaving 5 to score from the last over with 2 wickets in hand. From the first, Caley slipped when running and was Run Out for 34. Smith took a single from the fourth leaving 3 required from 2. Rosson was bowled and the match lost.
