Match report St Albans 1st XI avoided the threat of relegation after a 53-run win over Preston at Clarence Park.

Choosing to bat, a score close to 200 on a damp pitch seemed likely at 118-3 until a later collapse saw the last 5 wickets add only 4 runs. Matt Howeson, with 38, top scored with Robbie Goddard, 25, and a typically aggressive Sandipan Chanda, with 20, contributing. Extras were a healthy 28 with the wides contributing 16 as the limited over format restarted.

Preston's innings started in dramatic fashion as both openers plus overseas, Sam Crea, all made ducks. A score of 0 for 3 after 5 overs is a rare sight. The visitors rebuilt but Jospeh Clouting took a second wicket in a 7-over spell of 2 for 8 before Ben Hicks, on his first team debut, took a smart caught & bowled. Dan Rosson picked up 3 wickets. Only Blair and Anderson offering late resistance after Pete Murrell's 22. Henry Tyler finished the innings for a 53-run win and to keep alive the hopes of staying in Division 2A in 2016.
