St Albans Cricket Club 4XI v Watford Town IV on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 13:00
Match was Drawn

Match report St Albans IV's unbeaten run continued, but they were unable to force the win despite dominating with bat and ball against the league leaders.

With sunny skies above and a good looking wicket, skipper Webber didn't hesitate to bat first when the toss went his way, knowing he had batting aplenty. James lead the way, continuing his good form with the bat as he notched up another half century shortly before the 15th over, while Webber scratched around for runs at the other end. Having earlier survived a strong lbw shout, Webber was caught plumb in front and was on his way back to the pavilion for 19. Kanchwala stepped into the fray, rotating the strike with ease as he and James continued to accumulate the runs. As James eventually departed for 88 in the 31st over with the score on 135-2, the stage was set for some middle order fireworks. However, after Kanchwaka fell for 35, there were only brief cameos from Thomas (8), Nagarajan (18), Everdell (8), Maynard (10) and Milton (9) as 6 wickets fell for 43 runs.

Set an imposing 218 to win, Watford never looked likely to chase the runs down. A good opening spell from Awan (0-15) went unrewarded, while at the other end Everdell was a constant threat. His probing line soon yielded the first wicket, as Webber pouched Malhora at first slip, making up for earlier drop. Two more wickets fell to Everdell, the first bowled and the second caught at gully, while at the other end Ul Haq (0-11) dried up the runs. Mistry's first ball was a peach, ripping out Choudry's off stump, while at the other end Nagarajan (2-11) accounted for Watford's obstinate opener. With five wickets still required, Milton's leg spin was introduced and he soon picked up two wickets; a sharp caught and bowled chance and an skied drive which was safely caught by Everdell. A late burst from Everdell produced the 9th wicket, but neither he nor Milton were able to finish the job as Saints fell agonisingly short of their fifth win of the season.
