St Albans Cricket Club Won By 95 runs

Match report As afternoons go this was the finest in over 8 years for St Albans CC, with the 4's at SLCG and the 2's at Reed both winning before clear victories for the 1's at Clarence Park & 3's at Pirton producing the first clean sweep since May 2008. Anyone admit to playing on both occasions?

The First XI maintained their place atop of Division 2B with the gap extended to 31 points as Bishop's Stortford drew with North Enfield. Again they were indebted by Mbekezeli Mabuza who scored his first century for the club from 121 balls and constructed from a score of 31 for 3. Matt Howeson contributed 31 and Max Capaldi 34 as Saints batted the full 53 overs for 234. Might a target of 5 an over be to much?

As the rate barely rose beyond 2 an over in the opening 12 overs, it be came clear that the visitors from Welwyn would struggle. Jacob Winfield removed the dangerous James for 7 whilst Byford and Andy Emerton failed to force the rate up with good bowling from Winfield & Uttam Vijender. Shayne Emerton batted well for 30 before his first false stroke saw him caught by Adam Hounslow. Thereafter it was whether the visitors could be dismissed. Well yes, with the last 6 wickets falling in less than 10 overs shared by Dan Rosson (2 for 23) and Mabuza with 4 for 25 wrapping up the 95 run win by 7.00.

With five matches to go the first XI need 96 points to guarantee promotion to Division 2A. The A1 takes us to Potton Town next weekend and maybe a step closer to promotion.
