St Albans won the toss and elected to bat. A supposedly long batting line-up meant that a good total to defend was almost certain (Chris Hodges was bemused when he was told that he was batting at 9). Starts from Andy Rudlin and Naveed gave hope, but a batting collapse to 70-6 ensured that this did not last long. Richard O'Toole's arrival at the crease was exactly what St Albans needed, as he swiftly made his way to a very well made 50, including a big six back over the opening bowler's head. A well composed 36 from the skipper Mark Telkman helped rebuild the innings with O'Toole, but a flurry of late wickets (Hodges got 0) meant that St Albans could only muster a below par total of 164 allout, and were not able to bat the full 53 overs, senior O'Toole left stranded on 63 not out.

Broxbourne never looked in trouble, as they quickly went about chasing down the total. Jamie Regan looked the most threatening of the bowlers, and had 2 very close lbw decisions turned down. However, St Albans never had control over the run rate, as Ferguson played very well for his 70 not out. He was well supported at the other end by Pedlar (38), and Broxbourne cruised to victory in the 35th over with 8 wickets to spare. Special mention to Hodges who took a superb one-handed diving catch to make sure he didn't come off the pitch with a TFC award.

Away to relegation rivals Northampton Exiles next week, much better performance required...
