St Albans Cricket Club Lost By 64 runs

Match report A 64 run defeat for the 1st XI at Clarence Park which meant that the team were drawn closer to the relegation places in Division 2A. Set a score of 200 for 8 from the full 53 overs the chase floundered within the first 15 overs when 6 wickets were lost for 45.

Choosing to bat on a warm day, Hitchin's innings of three parts saw Maylin, cautiously, and Hussain, with more intent, take the score to 90 for 1 before White removed the latter. Four wickets fell for 25 and at 115 for 5 and the tail almost exposed a low score was feasible. Max Capaldi, with two wickets, and Mabuza slowed the scoring but the 6th wicket partnership of 76 between Harris & Flint quickened as the final overs approached. White returned to remove both and run out day to finish with 3 for 19. Jacob Winfield & Mbeks Mabuza also picked up a wicket.

White & Adam Hounslow started steadily. At 19 White was adjudged LBW and within 10 balls both Hounslow & Regan were out too. A second flurry left the chase at 45 for 6. Phil Caley counterattacked with 5 boundaries in his first 20 balls faced, eventually adding 56 with Capaldi, who top scored with a patient 43. His departure, well caught at mid wicket, brought on a quick finish as Saints missed out on batting points by 4 runs.

A disappointed afternoon overall with Hitchin making up 22 of the 40 point deficit. Next weekend, the 1st team travel to Radlett to face a 2nd XI currently bottom of the division.
