Radlett II v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 24 Jun 2017 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 7 wickets

Match report A 7-wicket win saw St Albans climb to seventh in Division 2A in a match dominated by Mbekezeli Mabuza. His century, from the last ball of the match, along with 4 wickets saw off a spirited challenge from a Radlett 2’s side struggling at the foot of the table.

Choosing to bat, the hosts started steadily with Michael Grossett containing the top 3 batsmen in a spell of 8 overs which started with 6 maidens and the wicket of Tej Malde, caught by Chanda. Cook & Neil Malde began to score more freely until the introduction of Dan Rosson and Mabuza restricted scoring shots. The pressure told as Cook was run out by Regan for 30 and Malde caught by Max Capaldi at midwicket off Rosson for 37. With 20 overs to go, Radlett were well placed for a 200+ score with wickets in hand until mabuza picked up 3 wickets in 4 overs for 11 runs. Chris Gallagher chose to counterattack, putting on 35 with Willis to take the score passed 150. Both fell in quick succession; second catches for Capaldi & Jacob Winfield. The tail rallied briefly but a target of 186 was well within reach. Mabuza finished with 4 for 41 and Simon White 2 for 14.

White, as ever, began strongly and picked up 4 boundaries in the early overs although was badly dropped by the keeper early on. Matt Howeson was not so lucky and departed for 5 bringing Mabuza to the wicket. A relatively untroubled stay of 82 balls featured numerous drives, cuts and pulls as well as four ‘Dilscoops’ in a row. The 50 came from 51 balls, beating the more conservative White to a well deserved 50 from 75 balls, before the latter departed after a partnership of 109 in 22 overs. Mabuza attacked further and was almost denied a century by Jamie Regan who score 19 from 14 balls and some confusion on the scoreboard. A single brought up the 82-ball hundred, the win and 30 points.

With Holtwhites and Hitchin both losing, Saints moved up to seventh. A strong Knebworth Park side visit Clarence Park this Saturday.
