Match report This trip to Balls Park in Hertford always looked likely to fall victim to a miserable weather forecast, and so it did, but not until St Albans had lurched through a few highs and lows.

The skipper elected to bat on winning the toss, anticipating the rain. Early on, only Rush (12) managed double figures as the IIIs slipped dangerously to 23/4 - collapsing to a low score would give Hertford a chance to sneak in victory before the weather could take over.

However at this juncture, youngster Seagrave came to the crease and showed his elders how to bat. Nimble placement and judicious hitting soon put the hosts on the back foot, with runs coming in a rush. Having compiled 61 - in a partnership of 70 - Seagrave was out trying to hit over the top once too often.

Another cluster of wickets fell, and now Saints were again in trouble at 107/8, the spectre of a defeat in a shortened fixture hanging over the team. Now Melling, who had partnered Seagrave earlier, was able to take control and moved to his own half century, compiling 58. At the other end, Walker (41*) did his bit, too, and the pair added 92 across 14 overs. Having reached 200 runs, and with it maximum batting points, the innings finished on 202 after a hectic 39.1 overs.

One of the best teas in the division was enjoyed even as the rain started to fall. Upon the resumption, Telkman was able to produce an unplayable delivery - pitching leg, clipping the top of off - but the run ups were proving unplayable too, the bowlers sliding on their approach to the wicket. The rain having set in, it was time to get inside, and the fixture was duly abandoned.

A good effort to muster 200, and clinch an 11th bonus point through the solitary Hertford wicket. A forgettable day for some, but Seagrave and Melling should cherish their knocks.
