Match report Darji won the toss and opted to bat. St Albans tried to make best use of a slow pitch with uneven bounce but took a while to find their line and length. Andrew Melling (6-20-2) picked up the first wicket in the 10th over. Batsmen were finding it difficult to score and the pressure told as wickets fell regularly. The bowling was shared around with Ciaran Walsh (5-15-4) picking up 4 wickets and good tight spells from Duncan Ferguson(4-6-1), Rob Still(6-10-2), Robbie Ferguson(5-13-1),and Sachin Patel(5-8-0). The Darji innings ending in the 40th over on 136. A target that could have been much lower had it not been for the 32 wides and 7 no balls.
In reply St Albans also struggled to score against some very tight and accurate bowling. Steve Ferguson(12) and Hassan Salahin(19) putting on 30 for the first wicket in the 12th over. When Peter Melling departed quickly after a great reaction catch in the slips. Sachin Patel(30) joined Hassan to rebuild with another partnership of 34. Although St Albans were slightly behind the run rate there were plenty of wickets in hand. When Salahin was bowled in the 28th over, 70 were needed off the last 12 overs. Duncan Ferguson then made a rapid 21 and the momentum swung firmly in St Albans favour. However after a couple of quick wickets momentum swung back again to Darji and St Albans eventually ran out of overs, finishing 15 runs short of the target.
A close battle given the tricky conditions and some great performances from the youngsters.
