Match report A hastily re-arranged match clashing with an Area match saw a depleted St Albans u13s take the field with only 9 players including three welcome guest u12s. But they come close to pulling of an unexpected win. Good bowling and fielding restricted Wheathampstead to only 72 (for 4) off 16 overs, including 2 direct hit run outs, and with Finlay Killner an assured debut captain. Only a late acceleration saw Wheathampstead to 122 for 5. Oscar Ainsworth took 1 for 12 off 3, while Daniel Williams conceded only 3 from his 2 overs.
In reply, Zac Tarrant (20) and Chester Reynolds (17) laid a good foundation before some aggressive hitting from Arthur Rees (16) and Daniel Williams (24*) took the score to 100 for 5 with 3 overs left, an achievable target. However, Daniel could only watch on helplessly as our last 3 wickets fell in 4 balls without further score, although to some good bowling.
A fine effort in a well contested and sporting contest.
