St Albans Cricket Club Lost but still 17 Points

Match report St Albans won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking track at Stevenage, all the batsmen contributed to a good total of 228 for 5 declared. Michael Goodfellow again batted well for 59 not out, and was the pick of the batting.
In reply Stevenage got of to a good start with opener Ganji hitting a quick 43 before being well caught at silly mid off by Longhurst of the bowling of Wischnowsky. Stevenage then slowed to well below the required rate at at drinks, and were unable to hit our seam attack off the square. They looked to have settled for a draw. A 12 or 13 point draw would have offered us no real gains. The carrot was dangled to entice the Stevanage batsmen out of their shells. The introduction of spin brought us both runs and wickets, upping our points tally to a respectable 17, but in the end we were a bit too generous in allowing them to get to the finish line and perhaps should have settled for 16 points and a draw.

But it was an exciting game of cricket that could have petered out in to a very dull advert for the game at one point.
The introduction of 50 over win/loose cricket to this league would be to the benefit of all, resulting in more exciting games and a better spectacle. There is nothing to be gained at county or international level insisting that we, in the Herts League play a 100 over match and allow teams to choose to not engage in a game as happened last week.
Lets move forward and make the game more fun for all.
