St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 48 runs

Match report Spartans won the toss and chose to bat. Robbie Ferguson bowled accurately and full - his yorkers being very effective and he picked up a wicket in his first over, going on to take 8-44-4. The opening bat (Wahas) was dropped on 5 but other batsmen didn’t have the same luck and wickets fell regularly. At 110 for 6 in the 19th over the momentum was firmly with St Albans.
I’m not sure what was put in the drinks but after the break the momentum shifted very quickly. Almost 200 runs were scored in the final 20 overs with only 1 wicket taken. The opening bat continued to attack, 6 further catches were put down and he went on to make 204*. (To rub salt into the wounds 2 of the dropped catches were parried over the boundary for maximums).

St Albans reply started well - Charlie Parkinson (37) and Josh Mulvaney (16) putting on 52 for the first wicket in the 10th over. Charlie’s partners then came and went fairly quickly including a quick fire 20 from Gyan Rhodes. At 133-6 in the 26 over there was plenty of work to do. Naveed Ahmed then put on explosive partnerships with Lorna Harper (16) and Huzefa Kanchewala (12), but St Albans were still teetering on the edge at 186-9 in the 33rd over. A final flourish for the last wicket left Naveed not out on 66* and Andy KJ 16*, with St Albans finishing on 254-9 with heads held high, reaching an excellent total at the end of their 40 overs, and just 48 runs short of the massive target.
If only one of those 7 catching chances had stuck the result could have been very different.
