Match report
A scratch team for the 4's including 3 U14 colts and 2 new recruits headed off on near perfect cricket weather to the scenic away game against Berkhamsted III.

Deputising for regular skipper Saunders (who was rather selfishly cheering Chelsea on at Wembley), stand-in skipper Winfield lost the toss and the opposition had no hesitation putting the 4's to bat.

The opening bowlers for Berkhamsted both bowled with good pace and accuracy and the wickets of Manny, Webber, Little and Tarrant fell quickly leaving Saints in the perilous position of 13 for 4 with only 6 over used. Sims and Winfield then batted patiently, defending stoutly and finding the occasional bad ball to hit for 4. George Sims looked very composed, playing technically correct and dispatching the first change of bowler for some lusty 4s. Sims fell for 15, as did Winfield and then Jones (14) and Harper continued to play dogged cricket, using up overs and ticking the score board over. Hunt on debut, Reeves and Ciaran all contributed and Saints limped to a 96 all total in the last over. Not a high total, but better than it looked early on.

On a very fast outfield and good batting track, 96 was going to be very hard to defend. Little and Winfield opened the bowling, Little claiming the opener and after a tight few first overs, Berko were 11 for 1 off 6 overs. As the No. 3 batsman settled in, he started to punish anything wayward for 4, with the ball flying across the outfield. At the first change of bowling on 10 overs, Berko were comfortable placed at 48 for 1, leaving it very hard for the remaining bowlers to apply pressure. Walsh bowled well and was unlucky not to take a wicket and Reeves bowled a lively spell without success. Sims and Jones bowled the final overs as Berko raced to 97 in the 18th over, with the no 3 bat dominating on 57 not out.

A loss by 9 wickets to a strong Berkhamsted side, but 11 losing points that did not look possible earlier in the week.
