Holtwhites Trinibis I v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 4 Wickets

Match report On another hot Saturday St Albans stuck to the same tactic and bowled first on an odd looking green pitch but bare at both ends.

Winfield started in the same manner as usual with a couple of wides but slowly found some sort of rhythm which has been lacking in previous weeks nabbing a rare wicket. White from the other end took a wicket with his first ball and was miserly bowling 7 overs for 9 runs getting decent lift from the surface beating the bat on countless occasions.

After the opening salvo Mr Dependable (Dan Foster) was introduced into the attack and as with previous weeks this middle period was where St Albans took control. Foster was aided by some good catching behind the wickets by Kendal and a catch from Howeson who ran around in circles under the ball before diving to take the catch for the benefit of the photographer who was present. Foster figures of 4-29 were only dented by some late sixes hit over cover by the number 8 who seemed to be batting far too low in the line-up.

Foster was backed up by Regan who bowled with good pace and movement when he was able to stay on his feet taking two wickets. Howeson again was in the firing line in the field for one of these wickets with a deflected slip catch settling between his legs and just off the ground. The Holtwhite innings was finished by Capaldi taking the last two wickets with Howeson completing a hat-trick in the field to cap a fine fielding display from the Saints and leaving a chase of just over one hundred for the second week in a row.

As with last week Hounslow and Winfield opened up. Sadly the Winfield experiment didn’t last long hitting one straight upwards and when White and Howeson fell in quick succession Holtwhite’s sensed an opening. Regan and Hounslow steadied the ship somewhat but again a couple of quick wickets saw the innings in a state of bother at 44-5. With Hownslow still at the crease St Albans were still favourites but after playing a great anchor role doing all the hard work a juicy full toss was hit straight to a fielder leaving St Albans with another 30 to get.

Any thoughts of victory that Holtwhite’s had were extinguished by a counter attacking innings by Wyles who smashed his was to 22* finishing the game with a six leaving Capaldi a spectator at the other end on 21*.

Another good win keeps the momentum going into next week where St Albans will be looking to end Preston’s unbeaten start to the season.
