Match report
The U14 girls team (9 players) included 4 pairs of sisters.
Having lost the toss St Albans were put into bat. The younger two Warwick sisters put on a fine display scoring confidently and with good calling put on 32 for loss of one wicket in the first 4 overs.
The O’Grady sisters continued the pace scoring freely and adding another 24 runs for the loss of one wicket. The positive shot making was contagious as the younger Jones sisters, and the Bond sisters continued to push the score along, both pairs adding 23 in their respective 4 over spells. Sophie Bailes then paired up with the Bond sisters again to finish the innings on the team’s highest total of the season 311-7.
It should be noted that none of the younger sisters lost any wickets and their net runs scored was higher that their elder sibling’s score!. So bragging rights to the youngsters with the bat.
In reply it was the older sisters that restored their honour taking full control of the match with the ball.
In Abbots’ first 4 overs Grace Bond 2-5-3 and Sophie Bailes 2-13-2 pegged back the home team and they never really recovered.
The fielding display was much improved from the girls last match, taking 7 run outs. Imogen Warwick was the player of the match picking up wickets 3-15-2, a great catch, and two direct hit run outs to leave Abbots reeling on 241-15.
A great all round team performance capped off by good glove work by both Bond sisters, and good joint captaincy in rotating their bowlers, and some clever field placements from Celeste and Imogen.
