Match report The first game of August saw the 4th team take on top of the table Bamville. Dave Ashton lost the toss, again, and it was no surprise to be asked to bowl first. A generous correspondent would say that the openers showed an attacking intent from the off. A more honest observer would say that they tried to slog at everything, a theme that was to continue for much of the innings. Josh was unlucky to see a number of shots skied into space. At the other end Andy bowled tightly, picking up three wickets and ending with an impressive 3 for 23 from his 8 overs. Mahesh came on first change and bowled with good pace, picking up a deserved wicket when Manny held on at square leg. Khayrul also bowled well, picking up a couple of wickets including a fine diving catch from Andy. Sam Mistry completed an excellent all round bowling performance, also taking two wickets - perhaps spurred on by the batsman calling for a cap rather than his helmet after the first over. Throw in a couple of run outs and a total of 156 seemed eminently gettable.
The second innings got off to something of a flyer. Hugo "I only deal in boundaries" Thomas cracking some lovely shots until he fell LBW. Manny also went cheaply and at 26 for 2 things suddenly looked less rosy. Najib (45) and Khyrul (27) steadied the ship with a partnership worth 51, Khyrul playing aggressively with one particularly huge 6 while Najib rotated the strike well to keep the scoreboard moving. When Khyrul was out George Pelham played a nice cameo inning with two well struck boundaries before Sam and Mahesh saw us home with 3 overs to spare. 30 points keeps us in third place and with the top two still to play each other an outside chance of pushing for promotion.
