Match report St Albans were left frustrated in their trip to Berkhamsted as the rain put pay to a gettable run chase which ultimately was abandoned.

On arrival at the ground (for Matt Howson this was after returning home to retrieve the keeping kit) both teams were faced with a very green looking pitch. Capaldi’s tossing form continued and he lost the toss and surprisingly Berko chose to bat first.

White (1-24) and Roche (0-42) continued where they left off last week and beat the bat constantly time and again as batsmen were not good enough to get bat on ball. Their opening spell only saw one wicket taken however, on another day this spell who have been good enough for the whole top order.

Scotcher (71*) coming in at 3 for Berko was the mainstay of the innings. He lived a charmed life early on and on debut Malik (1-40) had him tied up in knots with edges falling short and just wide of the slips multiple times. A debut wicket was just rewards for a very impressive spell which could have seen more wickets as Berko rode their luck

Winfield (2-42) bowled very nicely as he channelled his inner dragon getting the dangerous Gofton out caught by stand in keeper Howse. Capaldi (2-46) bowled a tight line forcing false shots from the batsmen which meant the innings was never able to accelerate.

Good death bowling from Roche and Winfield backed up by all in the field saw St Albans restrict Berko to a below par 201-6.

However, two overs into the St Albans innings the rain came and ruined the opportunity to open the season with two wins.
