St Albans Cricket Club 2XI v London Colney on Sat 13 Jul 2019 at 13.00
St Albans Cricket Club Won 95 runs

Match report The 2s arrived with cloudy conditions at CP to face top of the league London Colney in what was sure to be a tough test for the ever improving 2s side. After skip Rajani lost the toss Saints were put in to bat with openers Dean and Seagrave putting on a decent opening stand despite Seagraves best efforts to be caught and run out in the same delivery on one occasion. When Dean fell, Wyldes and Seagrave continued to battle against a well disciplined Colney attack. Seagrave batted beautifully with some glorious strokes for a well made 48 and was eventually undone stumped off a wide before Wyldes followed a couple of overs later for an important 29. The strong base that had been set allowed Saints to bat aggressively towards the end of the innings, a luxury that the 2s perhaps haven't done on enough occasions this year and as a result of this Nav (56) and Jimmy (46) were able to capitalise to send Saints to a very competitive 245-7.

As Saints set out to field after an inspirational team talk as ever from Rajani, Adshead claimed the early wicket that was required in his first over. However, sloppy bowling followed from Saints for the next 15 overs with far too many wides being bowled which on another day could well have cost us. Saints turned to the pace off bowling of Kumar (1-20) and Rajani (3-24) to stem the flow of runs, a change which provided Saints with a lot more optimism and alertness in the field and for the second week running the 2s fielded brilliantly, holding onto every catch and attacking the ball with great intensity. Special mention must go to JR behind the stumps who claimed 2 stumpings to remove key members of the London Colney batting lineup. In the end D Rosson cleaned up the tail and wrapped up a 95 run victory for the 2s.

A very solid performance from the team against a side that had only lost once all year, gaining a vital 30 points in the process. With there now being a gap between the top and bottom 5 in the league it becomes crucial that the 2s carry this momentum into their next few games, with 3rd place North Mymms up next and 2nd placed Rickmansworth on the horizon. If we perform how we did in this game, it would give Saints a big chance to earn promotion come the end of the season
