Match report This was the 3rd match in a row against local rivals Abbots Langley. Having narrowly lost the previous encounter the team were feeling confident.
Abbots opener , and their key Herts senior County player, started well, dominating the strike and hitting anything loose to the boundary. St Albans rotated the bowlers and it was Emily Pollard (2-5-1) who took the key wicket of the county player, with Cleo Spittall taking an excellent one handed diving catch behind the stumps. Abbots tried to rebuild but were struggling to score quickly against the accurate St Albans bowling. As they tried to accelerate wickets fell and they lost 5 wickets for 5 runs, finishing on 56-7. All the bowlers contributing to Abbots relatively low total. Lorna Harper 4-7-2, Alice Jones 3-12-1, and Grace O'Grady 3-6-1 the pick of the bowlers.
However as the CWC19 has shown recently chasing low totals can be tricky, but St Albans never looked in trouble. Opener Emily Pollard (6) was striking the ball nicely but was bowled off an inside edge. Lorna Harper (21*) joined captain Helen O'Byrne (19) at the crease and they put together a 45 run partnership. Having batted from the start Helen was unlucky to fall with the scores level, but job done, and with almost 8 overs to spare a comfortable first win for the Women's team.
Some great performances to take into the team's next match against Fishers at Clarence Park on Wednesday evening.
