Binfield v St Albans Cricket Club Women's 1XI on Sun 28 Jul 2019 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 29 runs

Match report St Albans Women’s XI travelled to Binfield, near Bracknell, for their first Home Counties League match.
Winning the toss St Albans took to the field. Arminah Awan and Laura Knill-Jones started a very tight opening spell, Laura picking up a wicket in her first over, Arminah picking up a wicket in her second over. Binfield were struggling to find the gaps and the fielders supported the bowlers well. Amy Price joined the attack and picked up the third wicket, leaving Binfield on 45-3 at the halfway point. However Binfield’s experienced Berkshire county duo were now at the crease, and the partnership picked off any loose balls scoring 98 runs in the final 10 overs to finish on an above par 143-3. Unfortunately Georgina Reynolds had picked up a hand injury taking a great catch off a no ball and was unlikely to bat, so with only 9 players available in the batting line up it was going to be a tough target.

Captain Amy Price fell in the first over of the St Albans innings and the target seemed even tougher. However Helena Loan and Arminah Awan batted sensibly and were ahead of the required run rate with their 27 run partnership. Charlotte Nelson picked up from Helena and built a 22 run partnership, and the game was finally poised with St Albans 54-3 after 8 overs. Georgina Reynolds bravely came into bat despite her injury. However the next 3 wickets fell for 1 run in 7 balls, and St Albans were in free fall. Jessie Nelson (an U11 player) playing as a very late replacement joined Arminah in the 10th over, and the two played with great maturity. Jessie and Arminah rotating the strike and the two put on 44 until Jessie fell in the 19th over, unluckily playing on. With 2 balls left in the final over Arminah still needed 4 for her 50. A solid forward defensive shot, was then followed by a pull shot, a one bounce 4 into the pavilion to bring up a well-deserved 50* for Arminah from 56 balls.

A great match, some great cricket on show, and some great hospitality from the hosts. The game had been the highlight of Binfield’s cricket festival.
