Match report Shenley (150-4) beat St Albans (139-4) by 11 runs

Perfect weather saw St Albans edged out in an entertaining and competitive friendly.

Shenley are a strong batting side and their openers made a confident start of 44 before Oscar Reeves finished his opening spell with a wicket maiden. Jake Clark came on and seamed one through the other opener, but Shenley continued to score steadily until second change Josh Smith took 2 wickets in his first over. 90 for 4 off 13. Josh kept his accuracy, but those were our last wickets. Shenley's best batsman accelerated. Despite Oscar Turner's calming over, Shenley ended on 150, an imposing total. The bowling and fielding had generally good though. Best bowling; Jake 3-0-14-1; Josh 3-0-15-2.

Zach Tarrant and Oscar R were certainly up for the challenge. Positive batting, excellent concentration and shot selection. By the time Oscar retired on 43* we were 83 without loss off 11. We couldn't have wished for a better start. Many thanks to u14s Dylan Laird and Reuben McComb who made up Shenley's numbers at short notice. Dylan bowled 2 steady overs before Reuben came on with a match-winning performance (3-0-12-2) by bowling Zach for 30 and then having Louis caught for 4 (off 3 balls, no hanging around). Jake hit a nice 4 before being caught off what was probably a no-ball, missed by the umpire (sorry!). Tom Bentley (10) kept the score going while Finlay (26*) played with skill and aggression to get us close, But not quite there.139-4, a very good innings. A tall order, a tight game.
