St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 63 runs

Match report On Sunday, the Women’s team started their 2021 competitive season at home in the Super 8’s League with two games against Beaconsfield and Abbots Langley.

The first game was against Beaconsfield. A strong solid batting performance from the whole team set us in a good position with 273 runs for 3 wickets. Despite a great effort on the field and bowling, St Albans were unable to stop the opposition’s score of 336 for 2, with wickets taken by Hannah Bentley and Sophie Meredith. The team played really well, and it was a strong performance for the first game of the Super 8’s League.

Our second game was against Abbot’s Langley. The bowling and fielding performance from St Albans was amazing, with numerous wickets from well-fielded run outs, Olivia Howeson’s eagle-eyed wicketkeeping at the crease as well as a couple of bowling wickets; a stand-out bowling performance from Jess Cowen. Abbots Langley scored 249 for 7 wickets. Our batting remained very solid with strong partnerships; notable performances from Olivia Howeson (16) and Katy Langley (14). St Albans Ladies won the match, scoring 303 for 2 wickets!!!

Both the games were a great opportunity to get back on the field to play some great competitive Ladies cricket at Clarence Park; and to end the day with a win rewarded the squad for their effort throughout the day.

Also, a huge shout out to Cookie Nagar who made most delicious food for the team, which included samosas, freshly made sourdough bread and the most amazing cricket cakes you’ve seen!!! Thank you so much Cookie!!
