Match report After an enforced week off St Albans knew a return to winning ways was needed however were humbled by a better team on the day going down by three wickets.

On a day which resembles the summer we know St Albans won the toss and batted. After the first couple of overs it was clear that this wasn’t a normal sun drenched batting wicket and one where application was needed. Some loose shots combined with tight bowling really restricted the top order with only Perrin offering resistance.

Once Perrin departed and Hall followed next ball St Albans needed to rebuild. This came in the form of a good partnership from Chris ‘Ironman’ Mude on debut and Harry ‘Amber Leaf’ Jerome who managed to put aside their differing views on quick running to get St Albans back into the game.

However, wickets again fell in patches and the last 5 wickets were lost for 19 runs including May missing an extravagant reverse sweep which meant Watford were chasing 125 for victory.

Knowing the game would not last the overs St Albans needed to start quickly but Watford came out equally as hard. However, in Watford’s urgency there were always going to be chances and some swift chances were taken by Hall, Regan and Steves.

May made a mends for the reverse sweep and looking to try and take the Matt Howeson floppy hat took the first 5 wickets to fall bowling an aggressive spell leaving Watford 60-5. However that was sadly as good as it got. Some loose bowing and big hitting saw Watford surge towards their target. The returning Kumar picked up two wickets in an over but Shahid got Watford over the line.

A difficult day and a big two months left in the season as the hunt for promotions continues.
