St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report On a rare evening of sun, the St Albans under 11 boys arrived at the cricketing Mecca of Clarence Park where many had been dreaming of playing since they were just 9.

Put into bat first we saw a steady start with some excellent calling and running between the wickets from Ahaan Dean and Luca Seagrove, both sons of St Albans cricketing legends (or so the dads told me).

Soon Ahaan and Luka departed in quick succession C&B in an excellent over for Old Albanians. This brought Ethan Witty to the crease who promptly smashed 25 of 14 balls to retire for the second successive match, proving that just like his namesake Chris Witty, Ethans batting should come with a health warning (for other teams). A couple of runs for James and an absolute Jaffa first ball for Dexter saw the latter depart for the Golden duck and an unfortunate walk of shame back past his Umpiring dad (me!)

The two Alex's saw out the innings to a competitive round 100 off the 20 overs with Alex CK hitting a nice 14.

Things started well with a beautiful Ahaan Yorker taking a wicket off the first ball of the innings resulting in the oppo batsman self-isolating on the boundary for 15 minutes with head in hands before finally revisiting his team mates.

Cue some great batting from the old Albanians before Witty was at is again - this time putting 2 batsmen on 'lockdown' before 'injecting' a bit of pace and 'spreading' the stumps far and wide (apologies). Another good batting performance followed to get the second old Albanian to retirement before a couple of late wickets for Arijit and Henry Wickett gave a brief glint of glory.

Unfortunately it wasn't to be and the runs were knocked off in just over 16 overs.

A top effort from the whole team and some great fielding from Zak and James in particular but man of the Match to Ethan for his superb innings (26 NO) and bowling (2-7) - especially in the face of much goading from his football mates in the opposition (who soon quietened when the fours started flowing!).
