St Albans Cricket Club Won by 79 runs

Match report The second pre season game saw Kensington and Chelsea visit a very dry Clarence Park and Capaldi on winning the toss had no hesitation in batting first.

K&C made an early breakthrough before Capaldi and Regan put on 68 runs for the second wicket before it was ended when Capaldi played across a straight one. The third wicket also saw a 50 run partnership between Regan and Coulman. Both played the ball nicely around the wicket before Coulman was bowled.

With wickets falling around him Regan kept going hitting 15 sweetly struck boundaries only seeming to break into a sweat with the all run 5. The classy Regan bought up a chanceless ton from only 88 balls before retiring to applause from all the players.

The end of the innings saw shots of the day from Kumar who muscled two sixes one of which ended up in the astro which saw St Albans to an above par 265.

The K&C chase was a curious one and being 33 – 6 at one point the game ended up being much closer than it should.

May and Adshead are forming an effective new ball partnership bowling aggressively with May being rewarded with two wickets and Adshead one. Change bowlers Sims and Mulveney kept the pressure up with tight lines. Sims on debut took two wickets including a spectacular one handed catch by Capaldi whilst Mulvaney’s control also saw him take two wickets.

50s from K&C number 6 and 9 was frustrating for St Albans as bowlers tried too much as frustration got the better of them. However, in the 44th over St Albans manager to wrap up the win and despite a 79 run victory they know there is still room for improvement.
