Match report St Albans’ Women’s 1st XI had their first 11-a-side game after competing in the 8-a-side development league on Sunday, which was a friendly against North London Cricket Club at Verulam School Playing Fields.
St Albans were put to bat first where Cookie Nagar and Georgina Reynolds confidently opened the batting. It was Charlotte Nelson who stood out in the batting line up, with an outstanding batting performance, resulting in a very well-earned 56 not out! St Albans finished their innings on 125 all out.
St Albans took their determination and drive into their fielding performance, showing great commitment in the field, at the stumps and in the bowling attack. Special mentions to Cookie Nagar for her outstanding fielding efforts as well as top-quality wicketkeeping from Hannah Bentley. The bowling attack remained strong with Lashika Jayawardena, Arminah Awan and Cerys Jones taking 2 wickets each and a stand-out bowling performance from Lashika Jayawardena with 2 wickets for 11 runs off 3 overs! St Albans’s won the game, by 8 runs!!
A great competitive game for the ladies to get back into the 11-a-side format. It was a wonderful display of Women’s and Girls cricket in St Albans CC, with the Women’s 1st XI and the U15 Girls playing at the same time today down on the Verulam School Playing Fields. A big thank you as well to Andy KJ for umpiring and Simon for scoring!
