NMCC v St Albans Cricket Club Women's 1XI on Sun 13 Jun 2021 at 1:15pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 1 wkt

Match report The Women’s 1st XI travelled to North London to play their away fixture against North London CC on Sunday. St Albans won the toss and elected to bowl first. Arminah Awan began our innings perfectly with 2 early wickets as well as Jess Cowen bowling fantastically, taking another 2 wickets for 6 runs off 4 overs, including 2 maiden overs. Great fielding from Cookie Nagar, Charlotte Nelson and Sophie Bailes ensured that the opponents weren’t able to get the boundaries and also applied the pressure on the single runs. Our newest member
of the team Olivia O’Neill bowled superbly, and Olivia Howeson bowled another amazing spell but was not rewarded with the wickets she deserved. With another 2 wickets taken by Cerys Jones and a majestic run out by Hannah Bentley, the innings concluded, where St Albans would be set a target of 92 runs to win.
Jess Cowen and Olivia Howeson opened the batting confidently, however, early wickets fell, and St Albans were put under pressure. Arminah Awan added to the score with 17 runs before unluckily being caught. Hannah Bentley accumulated 13 runs, whilst providing the stability in the batting that St Albans needed. The overs passed, the score was increasing, and the game soon became intense when St Albans found themselves requiring 2 runs to win with 1 wicket remaining. Charlotte Nelson began, what would be the last over of the game with a quick single run. Two dot balls passed, beautifully blocked by Lashi Jayawardena. The rest of the team were holding their breath, nervous but believed in their teammates in the middle to get the winning run and it was Lashi that ended the game in style, hitting a boundary to finish the innings, winning the game by 1 wicket!
Yet again, a fantastic game of cricket played, resulting in a very well-deserved win for the team, with smiles all-round! There are visible improvements in the match play every week and the team should be really proud of themselves. We go onto play Haileybury away on Friday evening and Hitchin at home in Clarence Park on Sunday, which will be yet another great weekend of women’s cricket for St Albans!
Thank you very much to Matt for umpiring and Simon for scoring!
