St Albans Cricket Club 4XI v Old Albanian 4XI on Sat 21 May 2022 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 39 runs
Match report
A comfortable win for the 4s
Performance Highlights: Moksy 65 NO, Nadim 5 for 8
Loosing the toss and put into bat, opening pair James and Josh played a very controlled and steady approach against some pretty consistent bowling with occasional variable bounce and movement. Josh was out first to one that jagged back ,this brought Najib to the crease who was also watchful, but taking on anything loose. At 20 over drinks the 4s were 57 for 1 and stand in skipper Winners given the instruction to up the rate in the second half, thinking double the first half rate to 150 was the target.
Najib eyes lit up at the introduction of the slow bowler and was duly stumped off his first ball. James continued to accumulate well and started to take on anything loose and finishing just short of his 50 on 47, taking 4 fours and 2 six - a great openers role. This brought Moksy and John W to the crease. Moksy playing carefully to start with and John nicking behind without troubling the scorers. With the 3 wickets falling quickly Saints were 92 for now 4 in 30th over and a 150 score looked a way off with new bat Benn joining Moksy.
What came next was a 10 over run fest and 100 partnership with Benn and Moksy. After a watchful start Moksy loosened his shoulders and dispatched the bowlers to various parts of Sandpit Lane with some brutal off cut slaps for 4s and finished on 65 not out, including nine 4s and 1 six. Benn brought energy to the crease, pushing hard for runs and tried to rotate strike to his partner who was finding the bowling to his liking. Benn hit four 4s and finished 31 not out. An excellent return of 192 for 4 off the 40 overs.
New ball duties were given to Prath and PD and it was clear OA would need to have a high run rate to keep in the game. Coming down the hill end Prath bowled a very consistent line, kept the batmen honest, beat the bat on a number of occasions (a couple of hard slip chance) and finished with an excellent 1 for 13 from his opening 8 overs. At the other end PD did not find a consistent line and lengthy to the opening left handers, who played quite aggressively and he finished 0 for 41 from his opening 6 overs, but that did include a couple of edges to the slip area, one smashing James sunglasses off.
First change bowlers were the veteran duo of Winners and Nadim. Winners had mixed fortunes, beating the bat with swing, 4 dropped catches and one of the players taking to his line, but finally finishing with 1 for 33. At the other Nadim bowled a match defining spell with inswingers that no batsmen every looked comfortable against, as he wrapped us his 8 over spell for incredible 5 wickets and a miserly 8 runs. Mocksy took a fine run out with only 1 stump to aim at and with a regular stream of wickets the game was almost gone for OA. Jack bowled 4 overs of spin and had a mix of some good bowls and a few loose ones, that OA no 8 took a liking to, as his 49 runs provided a 50 partnership for the last wicket and brought a more respectable score to OA's that seemed possible at 102 for 9.
To complete the game Josh bowled his leggies and once in his rhythm was comfortably beating the bat and took a well deserved final wicket as the game was won by 39 runs and the 4s to take the 30 points.
