Match report The fortress was basked in sunshine, with the ‘old’ coming out 2-1 victors in the ‘soccer as Pez received 5 stars out of 5 from Claire for his tea making skills, despite the out of date milk!

Skipper Joe soon made his contribution for the day and opted popularly to bat first, against groundsman Cales’ words of wisdom. The Saints got off to a solid start, albeit not fluent, on a slow deck to be 40 without loss from 10. 2 wickets fell in quick succession, before Bancroft and Jamie steadied the ship and built a very good partnership of 60, featuring ‘Abbey Aquatics Shot of the Match’ from the former with a sensual six down the ground. Tom O’Toole walked to the crease, with his girlfriend now choosing to look at her phone, missing another sound partnership for the saints. Jamie departed for a very hard worked 84 with the team on 168, and from here on in we stuttered to an under par 199-8.

The tea break was spent murmuring about why tea was only the regulatory 20 mins, instead of tea’ing.

The 2nd innings started well with ‘Bury 11-0 from 5, before a short flurry of boundaries put them at ease. From here too many ‘hit me’ balls and too flat a fielding performance ensued, putting us up against it until Josh took a good caught and bowled to have the visitors 87-1 at first drinks. However, nothing much changed after the chilled water break, letting the batters cruise the middle part of the game, alongside some extravagant stroke play. We were only 50 runs ahead for the end of the second stand, a sharp stumping by Mudey off Sammy, meaning we did get a decision after all. A tight spell from pick of the bowlers Badshead resulted in a wicket for him late in the day, but ‘bury left the city the winners by a demoralising 7 wickets, since the yellows weren’t up to their standards in all 3 departments.
