Ampthill Town v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 21 May 2022 at 12:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 34 runs

Match report We rocked up at Ampthill Town to hear the awful news of having no football to kick around. A game of vortex ensued, where the youngers proved they were no better than they are at
footy, resulting in a 12-0 win for the olders.

Skipper Joe lost the toss for the first time this summer, and we were sent out to bat. After an early wicket, the Regans looked in fine touch, until they were both dismissed in very different styles. In stepped Tom O’Tik Tok Toole and Max. Together they batted with some jaw dropping stroke play, but more importantly built a long and prosperous partnership, something which had been missing in the league thus far, worth 134. Max departed 64, but the saints’ momentum carried on, with TOT keeping us ticking, and Joshy hitting bombs in his cameo. Tooley brought up his ton with a quick single in the final over, a quite tremendous effort with a broken bat (shame this game wasn’t being videoed).

Tea was of laughing at Pez for not getting his car in the car park, and half of us exchanging theories on how best to actually score some runs.

Baylis opened up coming down the slope, a sharp spell, providing us with 2 wickets early doors. Badshead bowled lovely in a supporting role, but Ampthill had started to build a partnership. In strode that man again Joshy, serving up a knee height doosra, which was whalloped right down cow’s throat. Wickets fell at regular intervals for Ampthill from here on in, thanks to a tight bowling display from the saints. Baylis avoided the jug with a four-fa, and Max picked up 2 too, bowling excellent areas all spell long. We ran out 34 point winners, giving us our first 30 pointer for the season, a pretty complete performance.
