Match report Record Run Chase as St Albans U13 Smash it!

An incredible game of cricket ended in fantastic fashion with the St Albans U13A team securing a tight victory with just two balls to spare in an epic run chase.

A strong OAs 11 team batted first and were soon off to a flyer as 4 of the top 5 bashed their way to 30 a piece with a combination of power hitting and dropped catches proving crucial as OAs reached 140+ off the first 14. Tight bowling in the last 5 from James Lancaster, Albert Dye with a double wicket maiden and Dexter Fisher 1-1 pegged the home team back and they finally ending on 164/7 - a mammoth score and the highest ever amassed against our team.

Heads were down as we got off to a steady start against some top bowling, but with just 6 off the first 4 overs the task was looking tricky. Captain Ahaan Dean upped the pace eventually out for 26 of 22 balls as Thomas Wiggett played a steady anchor innings, eventually retiring for 31 from 34. As Ethan Witty came to the crease the asking rate was almost 12 an over from the last 8 - Arijit and Suli came and went bringing Neel Aswani to the middle in what looked like an impossible task. No one had told that to Neel as he smashed two sixes in his first 6 balls. Suddenly it was doable and the lads on the side were cheering on the team. Ethan decided to get in on the act hammering 5 fours and a six on his way to a 32 retirement of just 19 balls. 22 needed from the last two and Neel wasn't finished, smashing another huge 6 followed by a 4 to retire with a strike rate over 200 and 31 off just 14 balls. In came Alex Collins-Kanaan and James Lancaster with 6 needed off the last over against their best bowler. Alex expertly guided the first ball to the boundary relieving some tension and a single from the next ball brought the scores level. After a dot ball another lovely tickle to the covers from James meant St Albans had won with their highest ever run total - cue celebrations.
