Match report A closely fought and competitive encounter between Old Albanians and St Albans U9s. Old Albanians batted first, with St Albans applying pressure from the off with tight bowling and excellent fielding. Cautious but mostly confident batting meant that Old Albanians did not get bogged down, and they managed to keep wickets mostly in tact, meaning there were not many instances of the dreaded minus five being deducted from the score. Raylan bowled with both pace and control and was unlucky to not pick up any wickets, ending his spell conceding only 7 runs from his 2 overs. Joshua was at his scrooge-like best, conceding just 5 runs from his 3 overs. However star of the bowling show was Adnan, who picked up two for two from his allotted two overs. Old Albanians finished their 20 overs on 277 - St Albans sensed a first victory of the season was a possibility, and set out to take down their target. At halfway, we were in with a great chance, with some excellent running between the wicket shown by Harry W and Oliver, and some super shots from Harry M and Alex sending the crowd into raptures. 3rd pair Adnan and Raylan batted steadily, leaving us with approximately 15 required from the final pair of Joshua and Patrick. Unfortunately, Old Albanians brought back their demon bowlers, and a further 3 wickets were taken, leaving an uphill struggle for us, and we ended 12 runs short. A great match, played in a lovely spirit - well done all who played!
