Hemel Hempstead v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 26 May 2001 at
Match was Drawn

Match report Phil Caley wone the toss for the 4th time in a row and looking at the flat pitch and hot sun had no hesitation in electing to bat first. Roger Edbrooke opening for the 2nd time with Raza Chaudhry, looked at ease against a new ball attack composed of ex Herts opening bowler Waterman and the Tasmanian U23 opening bowler. As forecast the pitch was flat and Edbrooke, timing the ball exquisitely moved the score along quickly. Chaudhry after again looking good was bowled for 8 and then Triniman joined Edbroke in the middle. After a cautious start he soon joined Edbrooke in scoring freely and the two batsmen moved the scored into the 80's. Triniman was bowled by the Hemel off spinner turning a ball back trhough bat and pad leaving the way clear for in form Nick Gilbert to join Edbrooke. The partnership was not to last long as at first Edbrooke called for a quick single that Gilbert just made but in doing so tweaked a hamstring. After this episode Gilbert was caught trying to hit over the top. McGreggor making his first appearance in the 1st XI of the season soon departed being called for a suicidal single by Edbrooke and being run out by some 4 yds. Curtis came in and steadied the ship, but after looking set he edged to the keeper and departed. Captain Caley joined Edbrooke and the temperature increased in the field for Hemel. Caley blasted his way to 39 hitting both the opening bowlers, who had come back on to try and get in tothe Saint's tail, to all corner of the ground. Giving himseld a little too much room to swing his railway sleeper of bat he slashed the ball into backward points hand and his exhilerating inning was over. Simon White joined Edbrooke, was still working the ball around and punching 4's whenever the bowling strayed, to move the score along. With 1 ball remaining Edbrooke facing on 99 chipped the ball over the in field for 2 to claim a well deserved century and move the Saint's score to 236-6.
With White and O'Toole working in tandem Hemel were always behind the required run rate. Early wickets fell leaving the home side struggling to get any sort of momentum. With Caley and Parkinson adding valuable support to the opening duo Hemel were pegged back to 148-8 in their allotted 52 overs. Ac omperehensive winning draw by Saints who collected 18 points for their efforts.
