St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report
Chernobyl, Hiroshima in 1945 or sat on the titanic or are just a few places that would be more enjoyable than Watford Town.

Having had a week of rest due to rain, the 3s were ready for a great game of cricket. Unfortunately this did not happen. Rocking up to a very village looking pitch, the 3s inspected the pitch and knew it would be tricky. Telks won the toss and decided to bat first. Sam Street and PD went out to the middle. Both started well and managed a four each before Sam edged one to keeper and was replaced by Ash.

Unfortunately, PD was soon bowled a ball short enough that it should have bounced towards his head but instead bowled him by his ankles - Watford Town at its finest. The pitch decided to play its tricks again when Andy W was also bowled by his ankles an over later - 2 ball duck is always fun. Between these two wickets, Ash also managed to inside edge a ball which I think then hit his pads and trickled onto the stumps so slowly it only took 1 bail off. Safe to say, it was not a good start.
At 23-4, we needed a rebuild. Ethan and Yusef started with some lovely shots before Yusef hit a great drive (just a shame that the bowler managed to catch it). Hingston then came to the crease and also looked composed. After hitting a lovely 4 off his pads, he tried to recreate the shot but this time found a fielder.

After this, the thought of getting to 100 looked unlikely when left 45-6 however Ethan and hicksy batted beautifully. Blocking and leaving when needed but also punishing what they could, the best partnership of the day formed which helped get the team 76 before Ethan and Hicksy got out scoring 15 and 23 respectively. Very good knock from them both! JT added a few more vital runs (12*) with John managing 3 and Altaf smacking a 4 in Altaf style and finished on 6. 105 all out wasn’t ideal.

After a break (Watford Town skipper asking for 30 minutes which thankfully was reduced to 20), the 3s went out to bowl. JT and Altaf opened the bowling and they both had a good 4 over spell with both going only for 10 runs in this time. Chasing a wicket, the spinners of John shaw and Yusef were brought into the attack.

John bowled very well and was able to find a spot on the pitch which made the ball bounce stupidly high at times. Yusef kept the pressure on from the other end and managed to find a breakthrough when the bat top edged one to square leg. Despite it being an incredibly easy catch, all 11 people on the team were assuming it would be dropped when A Wright was at square leg but thankfully even he couldn’t drop it despite this being his second catch for St Albans (only took 36 games).
Watford town then continued to bat before the final bowling partnership of Ethan witty and Ash took 3 wickets between them. Ash bowling 2 and Ethan getting an LBW. Both of them kept good pressure on the batsman and the wickets being some vital losing points to the team.

Watford chased the total in 28 overs which meant St Albans could escape this silly ground and go home.

MOTM: not sure we picked one
Most fineable moment: PD running past a catch and then not fielding it
