St Albans Cricket Club 5XI v Welwyn Garden City CC 4th XI on Sat 27 Jun 2026 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report After losing the toss and being asked to bowl first, St Albans put in a superb all-round team performance to continue their winning streak with a hard-fought 3-wicket victory over Welwyn Garden City CC 4th XI.
We bowled really well to restrict the opposition to a par score. Uvi and Mahroof set the tone from the outset and never allowed the opposition batters to settle. Mahroof struck with the first breakthrough of the innings and finished with an excellent two-wicket haul, both opening bowlers ensured the opposition never got off to a flying start.
The pressure was maintained brilliantly by Vish, Adam, Tom, and Ali. Ali bowled with impressive pace and clever variations to claim two crucial wickets, while Tom and Vish chipped in with a wicket apiece to keep the scoreboard under control. Just when the opposition looked to rebuild, Jacob came on with his magical inswingers and picked up a well-deserved wicket of his own. It was a fantastic effort from the entire bowling unit, with wickets falling at regular intervals and no opportunity given to the opposition to build a match-defining partnership. However, the last wickets partnership took the opposition to a par score of 168/9.
Chasing 169, St Albans started cautiously. Praveen and Fin provided some early stability as the innings got underway, ensuring no damage until 15 overs with scoreboard ticking along. However, we lost momentum in the middle overs and the game was getting interesting with St Albans needing about 100 runs with 5 wickets in-hand.
That was when champion Nadeem stepped up. Showing great composure under pressure, he steered the innings superbly and kept the score ticking along when it mattered most. Ali then played a really important hand, striking a quick-fire 22 that brought the asking rate back under control and swung the momentum in our favour.
Ali was out in pursuit of boundaries. With victory still distant, another champion joined Nadeem at the crease. Uvi played a crucial unbeaten knock and, alongside Nadeem, made sure there would be no late drama. The pair guided us calmly across the line, finishing the job in style and securing a well-deserved 3-wicket win for St Albans with 2 overs to spare.
A brilliant team performance with contributions throughout the side.
