Dunstable Town CC 3rd XI v St Albans Cricket Club 3XI on Sat 25 Jul 2026 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 65 runs

Match report CRICKET, EH? WHAT A RIDICULOUS, BEAUTIFUL GAME!

OUR BOYS TRAVELED TO DUNSTABLE AND ABSOLUTELY TORE UP THE SCRIPT!

Back in May at Sandpit Lane, we put in a proper, old-fashioned shocker. Getting rolled over on our own patch by 104 runs was tough to swallow—it lacked the grit and character we know this side possesses. But club availability shifts, selection evolves, and what we saw out there today is the ultimate response to adversity.

We turned up to enemy territory well ahead of the opposition for warmups, sending a crystal-clear message before a ball was even bowled: STACC is here to WIN. We completely flipped the script and walked away with a magnificent, thoroughly deserved 65-run victory!

Technical Excellence & Application in the First Innings

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first away from home is laying down a marker. Captain Ash Dean rallied the troops early, and the top order backed it up with pure application.

The Foundation : After Deb ran himself out, it was time to build a partnership. S. Murray put on a masterclass, anchoring the entire innings with a brilliant, calculated 78 off 101 balls (13 crisp boundaries). At the other end, skipper Ash Dean ground it out to compile a vital 58 off 75 balls—his second consecutive half-century! Together, they put on a massive 114-run partnership.

The Middle-Order Express: Ben Hingston injected pure urgency with a quick-fire 37 off 41, shifting the momentum seamlessly.

Ruthless Finish: Young Olly Roberts finished the job in style, smashing an unbeaten 22 off just 16 deliveries (including two beautifully timed boundaries) to propel us to a formidable 217/5.

Dynamic Fielding & Clinical Bowling: Defending 217 requires intensity from ball one, and the energy in the field was top-drawer. Every single player threw themselves into the dirt, suffocating singles and building relentless pressure.
Sharp work behind the stumps provided lightning-fast stumpings that halted Dunstable’s momentum just as they tried to rebuild.

Special Mention: Daiwik Khedekar put on a field-setting clinic -his ground fielding was razor-sharp, his attitude was spot-on, and his catching kept the squeeze on all afternoon.

When it came to the ball, our bowling attack simply choked the hosts out of the game. P. Deshpande (called up from the 4s) showed true class upfront, bowled beautifully, locking things down with a brilliant 2/25. Nathan showed immense grit, bowling a tight line despite a reduced run-up due to a knee injury. J. Telkman (2/38) and A. Murphy (2/38) bowled with supreme intelligence, breaking crucial partnerships whenever Dunstable threatened.

The Finisher: When the tail was exposed, Yusuf Mayet was utterly ruthless. He ripped straight through the lower order to claim staggering figures of 4/21 in 4.1 overs, bundling Dunstable out for 152. Game, set, and match!

Balancing the Ledger:

Look at the turnaround across these two fixtures:
May 23 (Sandpit Lane): Dunstable won by 104 runs.
Today (Away): St Albans win by 65 runs!

To turn a 104-run home drubbing into a 65-run away masterclass takes serious mental toughness and genuine team spirit. The 3rd XI has officially found its groove -playing together, fighting for each other, and proving that consistency is our ladder up the division table.
