Match report A much stronger 2s side turned up to CP knowing that a win was necessary, mostly on time with a decent warmup, a better effort than Ricky, who turned up about at the toss, didn't warm up and looked relatively disinterested throughout the whole pre game. Ricky won the toss and bowled on a used road, captain keen to get to London for his night out and keen to roll us. Relatively arrogant. Saints to bat, Rudlin and Wilton to open.

Rickmansworth arrogance was quickly quashed by Rudlin and Wilton, who saw off the first 10 overs with ease, Wilton impressing his girlfriend's family with a brisk 29, including some nice leg glances off returning Billy May, but eventually fell LBW. He was mainly fortunate to avoid Alexis and Banksy's chat for the first 10 overs, it was quite something. McCormick came and went, yorked by Ricky's change bowler, and Church and Rudlin commenced a rebuild. Rudlin brought up a fine 50 with back to back sweeps off the spinner, eventually bbqed by Church (who will claim it was Rudders' fault). Well batted sir. Law came in and put some change bowlers to the sword before falling to the leg spinner, and Jithin skied a pull straight to the close fielder.

Churchy pushed on, out eventually for a slow 41, setting a platform for us, before Banksy missed a straight one. A good rearguard from Winners and Alexis brought us to a competitive, if slightly under par 242/8. Highlights included a Winners step across the stumps and ramp and Alexis flicking Billy May off his pads for a delightful boundary late in the game.

We started in good spirits, Winners and Chen with the new ball. Chen had to try twice to get the opener out, a clear noise off the glove but nothing given before pinning him LBW later on. Ricky kept scoring despite wicket fall, Billy May falling to Banks after nearly missing his girlfriend's friend's birthday party, suddenly we had them 120/5 and smelt blood. Some tidy bowling from Chen up top and two wickets for Alexis, including a screamer in the slips from TMC to dismiss the overseas. Tom Wilton also took a fine catch at long on (one of his two in the day), running in and still on the move as he took it, a scream of celebration betraying that he actually might care about cricket a little bit.

Sadly, a combination of Saints not quite finding their lengths on a pitch that was offering turn and bounce, and two really good knocks from Rickmansworth's skipper and VC caused our undoing. Shaw struggled with his length and Alexis' final over went for 20 as the runs kept flowing. We turned back to the seamers but the batters were too comfortable, the score eventually chased with 4 overs to spare. Shaw took two vital death wickets, two points that could make a huge difference to our season.

Ultimately, we came second, but we only just came second to the side that are runaway leaders in this league. Not a bad performance and if we play like that every week, I'm confident we can stay in this division. Next week Totteridge away, their captain was a great bloke last time so I'm sure we're really looking forward to it.
