Match report Stand-in skipper Sally finally won a toss at the fourth attempt and, with the Saints Under 13s and Under 11s girls providing a vocal fan club from the boundary, elected to bowl first in Saints' final game at Clarence Park.

As they have done all season, Evie and Freya made an excellent start with the new ball, asking plenty of questions of the Broxbourne openers. Freya claimed the important wicket of the Broxbourne wicketkeeper, while some tight bowling and fielding kept the visitors to 72-1 at drinks.

The remaining opener, however, seemed to be living a charmed life, with several mishits dropping just out of reach. A few missed opportunities and some lax fielding proved costly as Broxbourne accelerated in the second half of the innings to finish on 219-6. Special mention goes to KP, with an outstanding spell of 1-10 from 7 overs.

In reply, Caitlin and Sally opened the batting, but a couple of early wickets left Saints struggling at 7-2 and facing an uphill battle. Sally and Anum then combined for a superb 98-run partnership, rebuilding the innings through plenty of strike rotation and the occasional boundary against a very slow, spin heavy Broxbourne attack.

The partnership was eventually broken when Anum fell agonisingly short of a deserved half-century for 49, before KP arrived at the crease and promptly announced there would be no more threes. Sally carried on to reach her first half-century for Saints, eventually finishing with 56 before falling in the final over.

Saints closed on 140-4, falling 79 runs short, but it was another encouraging performance. A strong bowling display and a much-improved batting effort provide plenty of positives heading into the final game of the season.
