St Albans Cricket Club Women's 1XI v Bishop's Stortford CC Womens 2nd XI on Sun 26 Jul 2026 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report This fixture marked St Albans’ fifth T20 match of the competition, with the side arriving still searching for their first win after a difficult 0–4 start. Despite the results, confidence was high: the XI selected for this match was strong on paper, with depth in both batting and bowling, and there was a clear sense that a breakthrough performance was within reach. With that backdrop, the visit of Bishop’s Stortford offered a real opportunity to reset momentum and convert competitive spells into a complete team display.

Bishop’s Stortford chose to bat first, and St Albans opened strongly: an early wicket from Kate Pankhurst kept the visitors honest, but once opener Ankhan Aswani (53*) and new batter Alisha Maxin (57) settled, the game tilted sharply. Their partnership was the defining feature of the match — aggressive shot making, relentless boundary hitting, and an ability to punish anything even slightly off line. St Albans stuck to their plans and bowled and fielded well, but were unable to break the stand until late on. Highlights included Sally Cheeseman’s excellent, energetic fielding and impressive spells from Liv O’Neill and Paloma Theobalds in the face of some imposing batting. By the time Maxin fell to O’Neill, the damage was done, and Bishop’s Stortford closed on 126/3 — a total built almost entirely on that one commanding partnership.

Chasing 127, St Albans needed a solid start but instead suffered a rapid collapse. Monteith’s early boundary flurry ended at 15; Cheeseman and Awan fell quickly; Ahmad and O’Neill followed soon after. At 34/5, the innings was in real trouble.

The rebuild came through Lucy Davis (14 off 31) and Elaina Ridolfi (22* off 26). Their partnership was calm, organised, and technically sound — rotating strike, absorbing pressure, and refusing to let the innings unravel. Ridolfi in particular played with clarity and intent, finding gaps and keeping the scoreboard moving.

After Davis fell, Ridolfi continued with a short late cameo from Paloma Theobalds (4* off 3), adding some final momentum. But the target remained out of reach, and St Albans closed on 103/7 — a fighting total that restored pride and reflected character more than opportunity.
