Old Citizens CC v St Albans Cricket Club 6XI on Sat 20 Jun 2026 at 1pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets

Match report St Albans CC 6th XI produced a disciplined all-round performance to secure a comfortable four-wicket victory over Old Citizens CC at Bushey, successfully chasing down a modest target of 119 with six overs to spare.

Batting first, Old Citizens struggled to build significant partnerships against a tight and well-organised St Albans bowling attack. The St Albans bowling unit laid the foundation for victory with a disciplined and economical display right from the start with Vish and Tom bowling in tandem. Vish started the fall of wickets with 2 wickets in an over and Tom kept things tight at the other end. The wickets kept coming at first change. Freya bowled with very accurate line and length and in spite of few dropped catches off her bowling, she got 2 crucial wickets in the middle overs. Ubed chipped in with an important wicket of the set batsmen who was looking dangerous, while the rest of the attack maintained pressure through tight lines and lengths.

Promise, Kara and Ali bowled tight line and lengths, ensuring Old Citizens never gained any real momentum. It was Fin, however, who claimed 2 wickets of his own with his own brand of lovely flight and dip.
Special mention to Daniel who took to the field after after 10 years and his sharp fielding and 2 catches in the outfield made huge difference. And as always, Promise's athleticism on the field and he took a great catch at deep mid-wicket!

St Albans restricted Old Citizens to 118/7 from their 35 overs.

In the chase, St Albans suffered a few early setbacks but never allowed the required rate to become an issue. The foundation of the victory was laid by opener Peter Melling, who played the innings of the match. Demonstrating patience, composure and excellent shot selection, Melling anchored the chase with a superb 53, ensuring St Albans remained firmly in control despite losing wickets around him.

Several batsmen made useful contributions in support, rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard moving. Although Old Citizens managed to claim six wickets and briefly threatened to make the contest interesting, St Albans always looked the more likely winners. The target was eventually reached in the 29th over, sealing a four-wicket victory.
