Match report The final game. After a strong season of 3 wins and 4 losses going into the year, the Sunday 2s knew they needed a win to have an equal win/loss record. Given the Salmagundi Gardeners have beaten us the past couple of years which included one of their players refusing to retire on 100 last year after doing a Jadeja celebration - we knew we needed to Wright the wrongs of our previous Uppingham outing and win.

As everyone knows (apart from their skipper), tails always fails. This meant that A Wright was able to bat first. A decision much appreciated by a team that were still feeling the effects of the bank holiday weekend pub trips.
Wrighty and Hingston headed out together knowing that whoever scored more today would be the top run scorer for the Sunday season. 3 balls later, Wright found gully for the 2nd time in the weekend, producing his second duck of the weekend as well.

Hingston did not get a duck. With 17 fours and 1 six, he brought up yet another hundred. Arguably could be a fine for not celebrating in style and actually respecting cricket and retiring himself despite his captain telling him to continue. As always with biceps, this was a great watch and much deserved 100!

The other bit of class from a batting point of view came from Zac (Isaac) Johnson. Having found some form in the 5s, most of the club know the runs he has been scoring. He had a calm and controlled innings scoring 60 which included 7 fours and quite a large six.

Dulon (6), Peter (4), Andy (3), Deb (7) came and went but this left Daiwik able to pick up the phone and wag the tail with Coulling. Tom managed 21 and Daiwik 16 (this was off just 9 balls).

A total of 230 was respectable but we knew we needed to bowl well to win.

Altaf and ciaran started the attack with 8 overs each. Altaf bowling his typical Sunday spell of brilliance. With one wicket and an economy of 2.75, he is a joy to watch.
Ciaran also bowled. He asked me to call his first wicket an unplayable delivery. Unplayable full tosses are typical Sunday wickets tbf. He added a 2nd wicket and also kept his economy under 3.

Deb and Daiwik took over the attack. Daiwik showed great control and picked up a further 2 wickets. Deb could have had about 5 but certain slips (myself) and mid offs (Ciaran) had slippery hands. Despite the lack of help, he got 2.

Rain fell and then got heavier. Captains shook hands and the rain stopped as we walked off but decided to open up the bar instead of going back on our hand shake.

St Albans won by 118 to end a positive season for the Sunday 2s

Thank you to everyone that played during this year. Sunday cricket requires dedication to play twice in the weekend and it’s been fantastic to have had the season we have had. Already looking forward to an unbeaten 2027 season!!
