Watford Town v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 22 Aug 2015 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 3 wickets

Match report A second win in a row staved off relegation for St Albans 1st XI on Saturday at Watford, who included former England player, Kabir Ali, in their side.

Choosing to bat, Watford's innings often promised much more than the 192 scored as most batsmen made a start but only Hussain and Hanif passed 25. After Pujari departed for 20, well caught by Robbie Goddard, Hussain and Kantumuchhu batted cautiously against the impressive Ben Hicks and thrifty Dan Rosson. Skipper Hanif scored a quick 26 until Goddard dismissed he and top scorer Hussain in quick succession. Chesetty and Panchal scored quickly but their colleagues struggled with some tight bowling. The late accelaration misfired as the last 3 wickets fell for one run in 8 balls. Rosson took 3 for 11 from 8 with Henry Tyler & Goddard picking up 2 wickets.

The St Albans innings began with an 11-ball over but, as has often happened in 2014, early wickets fell. At 32 for 4, Matt Howeson and Sam Kindlen, in his first 1st XI match in 2 months, came together. For almost two hours they batted sensibly. Numerous wides & no balls aided the cause as did 5 penalty runs for a fielding helmet struck. With drinks arriving, Kindlen departed for 44 after a 114 partnership. Post-drinks Howeson departed for 45. At 157-7, the game in the balance and with skies darkening, Phil Caley walked out to lend his vast experience to the cause. He scored 26, from 24 balls, along with a top score from extras, which totalled 46 and included 31 extra deliveries, to steer Saints home by 3 wickets with 11 balls to spare and the clock almost showing 8pm.

Saints need to win both remaining matches and hope that other results are favourable to stay in Division 2A and not drop to either 2B or 3A. The first is against promotion chasing Old Owens at Clarence Park his Saturday
