Match report St Albans Cricket Club 1XI 109 for 2 beat Hemel Hempstead II 108 for 10

On paper a comfortable win for the 1st team although with some confusion over the League rules after a rain delay of almost 2 hours.

Matt Howeson again won the toss but chose to field in what were deemed to be bowler-friendly conditions. Lewis Hodgins made light of these by scoring a quick 20 before picking out Caley, who took a sharp catch at mid-wicket. From here on the bowers dominated. Dan Rosson picked up a couple of wickets before a double change slowed the run rate with wickets given away as the visitors tried to push on. Mbekezeli Mabuza took 2 for 20 and Charlie Smith 3 for 20 ensured a low target with rain threatened. Sandipan Chanda took 3 catches.

With the rain radar suggesting imminent heavy rain, Ben Nicholl & Adam Hounslow began quickly, helped by 6 wides in the first 2 overs. They put on 42 in 7 overs before a direct hit from point ran out Nicholl. The rain arrived soon after with St Albans 52 for 1. The delay meant the loss of 19 overs and a revised target of 68. The umpires decided that a minimum of 20 overs had to be bowled to constitute a match. Goodfellow departed soon after the break but Mabuza joined Hounslow and with the 20 overs up the initial target of 109 was reached. Mabuza scored 24 not out with Hounslow 49 not out from 63 balls.

The 30 points saw St Albans take top spot in Division 2B with the match between Welwyn Garden City 2's & Bushey called off and Eversholt losing. Next weekend we travel to Welwyn.
