St Albans Cricket Club Won By 94 runs

Match report A 150-run partnership formed the backbone of a 94 run win against Allenburys & County Hall in a return to the 50 over-a-side format.

Adam Hounslow, with a season-best of 92, and Beks Mabuza, with his fifth half century of the season, used 29 overs in patiently accumulating runs. The curious tactics of attempting to throw down the stumps down at every opportunity hardly fazed either batsman as singles and 2's were picked off with ease.

With captain for the day, Max Capaldi, choosing to bat the visitors picked up the wickets of Robbie Goddard, with 28, & Ben Nicholl in the first 12 overs with 52 on the board. Once a disappointed Hounslow departed, it started a collapse with the last 8 wickets falling for 51. Michael Goodfellow scored 25 and a target of 254 set.

Allenburys started quickly depsite losing Dawson to Uttam Vijender for 8. Mabuza's introduction was early and it brought immediate benefit as a fine throw from Vijender ran out Stevenson. Progress was steady thereafter and whilst catching chances in the deep went begging the run rate climb to above 6 an over. The dismissal of Szeimako, LBW to Goddard, lead to the batsman throwing his bat away. The tail was quickly mopped up by Capaldi, with 1 for 32, & Mabuza, with 3 for 12.

The 30 points, plus a heavy loss for Eversholt, leaves a target of 15 points in 3 matches for a return to Division 2A. It could be next Saturday at Bushey. The battle for first place may go to the last day.
