Match report Having lost the toss Manny Nisar and Oscar Reeves started patiently against some fast and accurate bowling. Aaron Jones joined Manny in the 8th over but after some classy stroke play was unlucky to fall to one that kept low.
Tim Winfield joined Manny and built another patient partnership and, with a platform established at 52-3 after 23 overs, they both started to accelerate, Tim eventually falling in the 30th over. Najib Khan joined Manny and the score accelerated still further - the team scoring 72 in the final 8 overs to finish on 171-6. Manny was the backbone of the innings and was eventually bowled for 50 in the 35th over. The biggest team total of the 4s season so far and one that felt defendable.

Clearly the Northwood team had a party to get to as they got off to a flyer reaching 40 in the 4th over. Opening bowlers Tim Winfield and Ciaran Walsh held their nerve and their patience brought rewards. A superb one handed catch by debutant Kavisha Waidyaratne set the tone in the field. Northwood remained well ahead of the asking rate, but all St Albans’ bowlers kept a tight line and length, and supported admirably by the field, started to pick up wickets at regular intervals. Once Northwood’s “Brendon McCullum” eventually miscued one into the covers for 53, St Albans turned the screw further. Northwood only required 47 runs in the last 10 overs, but with 3 wickets in hand the game was finely balanced. However the momentum was with St Albans and the pressure from the bowlers and fielders continued to build. The final wicket was eventually claimed in the penultimate over.
A great all round team performance for the first win of the season.
All catches held, only 9 extras, and special mention for some great work behind the stumps by Eamon Goodfellow who took a catch and a lightning fast stumping.
