With numbers depleted this week, a superb effort by the 8 man u14s - edged out with just 1 ball to spare and just 1 wicket to get, and only after several harsh wide calls ...
Unaccustomed openers Thomas Coulling (14) and Louis Stocks (16) got us off to a fine start, continued by Oscar Ainsworth (9), an aggressive captain's innings from Jake Clark (25*) and a well struck 20 from Finlay Killner. With a good dose of extras, and managing to bat into the last over, 124 for 6 (all out) was an creditable performance.
Shenley were soon reduced to 35 for 4 but their next pair played well and both reached the maximum 25. The score mounted, with an inordinate number of wides, although our fielding remained competitive, especially Oscar Ainsworth. As the scores narrowed, 6 runs were needed off Oscar Turner bowling the last over. Despite Oscar taking 2 more wickets (to end with 3 for 12) and Finlay ending up with 3 good catches, a boundary from the penultimate ball saw Shenley home, just!
Special thanks to under 12 Rhys Barham who willingly volunteered to keep wicket in the absence of our regular keeper and did really well.
An enjoyable game on a lovely warm evening at Shenley; sadly an over zealous Shenley second half umpire, but otherwise hosted and played in good "B" spirit.
