Totteridge Millhillians 1st XI v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 29 Jun 2019 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 2 Wickets

Match report After a scenic tour of a couple of grounds in North London courtesy of Capaldi tours the 1st XI showed up later to Totteridge and on a hot day elected to bat first at a very small Totteridge ground.

Hounslow and Capaldi opened up and moved the score onto 42 before Hounslow was well caught at slip. From then on St Albans slipped to 49-3 and then 62-4 as once again the top order failed to give a solid base. Howeson and White started the rebuilding phase and were looking compact with lots of well timed boundaries. However the introduction of spin was the undoing for Howson who was lbw for 35.

Hall joined White and this pair put on 74 for the 6th wicket as they hit boundaries at ease to the small boundaries. With these two together St Albans looked as though they could get up to the 300 run mark which would be par. But when Hall was Bowled and Kendel came and went quickly at 173-7 the lower order needed stick around and score some runs.

The last 3 wickets added 97 runs as the innings finished on 270 as white made a capital 73 – what a shame no one else in the top order could stay with him. Caley (33) manipulated the field well and Roche 23* knocked it around the field carefully to allow St Albans to bat out 50 overs.

St Albans knew that Totteridge would come out firing but at the first drinks break at 16 overs 73-1 St Albans had restricted the top order well. However, over the next 10 overs 100 runs came as the St Albans spinners suffered with the incredibly small boundaries. Capaldi (2-67) managed to finally remove the two set batsmen and St Albans sensed a way back into the match. White (1-37) was unlucky to only take one wicket as he bowled tightly inducing many false shots.

It was Regan who did the damage taking his maiden five wicket haul for the club (5-40). This spell of bowling gave St Albans hope of a memorable victory however Totteridge just about had enough left in the tank scraping over the line by two wickets.
