St Albans Cricket Club 1XI v Watford Town I on Sat 06 Jul 2019 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 92 runs

Match report St Albans finished the first half of the season with a good victory over Watford Town.

Capaldi won the toss and chose to bat and saw himself and Jamie Regan put on 46 runs for the first wicket before Capaldi was caught in the deep. Coulman came and went shortly afterwards and this bought together the Regan brothers. They both worked the ball around the large Clarence park pitch running well and putting the bad ball away with ease.

Jamie passed 50 and was looking well set to kick on. However, at 130-2 Joe called Jamie through for a quick single and a good return to the keeper saw Jamie caught short of his ground and was run out for a good 63. This wicket then saw St Albans lose 8-64 as the middle and lower order couldn’t build on the foundation which was set. Only Joe Regan stuck around for any period of time and hit a well made 63 – a maiden 50 for the club. Poor shot selection really helped the Watford Town bowlers as St Albans managed a below par 194 and knew that a fast start was required after tea.

This fast start was realised as what happened at the start of the Watford innings was madness as after 5 overs Watford were 11-4. The first two wickets fell to suicidal running as Hall and Coulman stayed cool under pressure to effect easy run outs.

Winfield and Roche then chipped in with a wicket each as the ball was put in the right areas as the Watford Town batsman tried hitting themselves out of trouble. The only partnership of note in the innings was for the 5th wicket as some sensibility was found in the Watford batting. This partnership was ended by Jamie Regan who got the batsman to pick out Howeson at mid wicket for an easy catch.

Capaldi and Joe Regan then proceeded to mop up the lower order with accurate bowling and more questionable shot selection. The ever young Phil Caley was superb at slip taking two good chances including a one handed diving grab. This saw Watford fall 92 runs short of the target.

St Albans will look for a strong start to the second half of the season to try and move up the league table.
