Bishop's Stortford Girls v St Albans Cricket Club Girls U15B on Sun 14 Jul 2019 at 13:30
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 59 runs

Match report There were lots of nerves and anticipation leading into the finals day but the coaches managed to calm themselves and prep the team for the big match! This was St Albans first final for the U14s girls but the mood was positive on a beautiful day in a lovely setting in Knebworth. We lost the toss, but got our preference and batted first anyway.
Opening the batting were our captain for the day Jess Cowen and Hannah Bentley. As expected, Bishop’s Stortford opened with at least one of their pace bowlers. Jess and Hannah just needed to set a solid foundation for the rest to build on and they did that extremely well with intelligent running and good shot selection. In came sisters Charlotte and Jessie Nelson who were both in great form, Jessie getting singles at the right time and Charlotte playing an impressive array of shots to the boundary. Crucially, St Albans hadn't lost a wicket at this stage with the score at a healthy 247 after 8 overs.
Next up was Cora Baylis and Evie O'Grady who both played with maturity and ran well between the wickets to push the score up to 257 at the end of their four overs. In previous matches during the season, we've tended to go backwards at this point and the coaches felt this was a pivotal moment in the game. Out to middle came Grace Bond and Farah Stamp. In their first over we lost two wickets, but after that it was a powerful display of batting from Farah that really took the wind out of the opposition sails. Credit to Grace with her best performance with the bat this season and Farah for hitting two brutal sixes and three fours in an awesome display. This shot the score up to 285 and really took the game to the opposition. Finally it was the experienced pair of Celeste Jones and Imogen Warwick whose partnership was a brilliant display of running and choosing the right balls to dispatch to the boundary. Celeste playing some great shots against their key pace bowlers. Well done to Imogen who took a nasty blow on the big toe and played through the pain for the rest of the match without complaint.
St Albans finishing on a great score of 319. The team knew this was going to be hard to beat if we bowled well.

Farah opened the bowling and continued her impressive day by keeping their two openers troubled at the crease. Cora took the other end and bowled well, but Stortford’s best batsman pounced on anything short. Evie O'Grady took the fourth over and bowled a great line and length to put a stop to any momentum for the opening pair. Hannah and Charlotte kept the scoring low with tight bowling and Jessie Nelson took two wickets in two balls to send the opposition in the wrong direction. Unfortunately Jessie fluffed her lines for the hat trick ball with a wide! At this stage, Grace Bond swapped wicket keeping duties with Hannah, but had kept superbly. Hannah also doing a cracking job behind the stumps when she took over. Evie bowled well and took a great caught and bowled, and a good runout really put the skids on Stortford’s progress. Cora came back on and bowled beautifully before Charlotte’s second over secured another wicket leaving the opposition with a lot to do and needing to take risks. Jess Cowen had been marshalling the troops in the field and bowled as well as always, making scoring difficult for Stortford. Grace Bond came on and continued her excellent day with a caught and bowled on her last ball for a superb wicket maiden. The final overs were entrusted to Celeste and Imogen and they both bowled with pace and put the game to bed by not allowing the opposition to get anywhere near our total. This was an all-round brilliant team performance taking victory by 59 runs and claiming the U14 county championship.
Every single player contributed on the day and the coaching team (Andy, Michael, Glenn and John) and parents couldn't be prouder of the team. This team play with a great spirit and encourage each other on and off the field and Andy and I have received several emails to this effect from other clubs.

A special mention to Sophie Bailes, Evie Warwick, Darcy Jones, Olivia Howeson, Lucy Howeson, Freya Bolam, Christine Bond, Yasmin Meadows, Sophie Treloar, Cara Chennells, and Neha Kubair who all played their part in the success of the u14s team this year.
Congratulations girls!
